AI and ethics at Explain a Paper
A short film about how Explain a Paper uses AI: a language model helps draft the script, one of our team prepares it and you approve it; the pictures are built in code, with no image or video model; the narrator is synthetic and disclosed in every film; a redrawn film copies no text or images from the paper; and your paper is used to make your film and nothing else.

Is this film made by AI? Partly, and we say exactly where. A language model helps draft the script, and one of our team prepares it. The pictures are drawn by our own software, not by an image or video model.
You can edit every script, and say what you want to see at each point in the film. Nothing is rendered until you approve it. A video model paints every frame, so it can invent a number. Our software draws only what is in the script you approve, with charts plotted from the paper's own numbers.
The narrator you are hearing is synthetic, and every film says so: in its first caption, its transcript and the video file itself. A redrawn film copies no text or images from the paper. A film that shows the paper's own pages needs the right to adapt it. Our copyright page explains more.
Your paper is used to make your film and nothing else, and deleted ninety days after you accept it. If it is confidential or embargoed, save the order: we email you when we can process it. Try it yourself: get started today at explainapaper.com.
