Our numbers

A short video about Explain a Paper's numbers: how many videos our engine has rendered and how many minutes; the electricity and CO2e we estimate that saved against making them with an AI video model, our own AI drafting included; the measured electricity of a whole 70-second video, since no AI video model paints our frames; and an estimate, from studio guides, of a traditional animator's hours, electricity and price.

What has our video engine made, and what has it saved? It has rendered one thousand, two hundred and twenty videos, one thousand, eight hundred and thirty minutes in all, with every frame drawn in code. Making them with an AI video model instead would have used an estimated seven hundred kilowatt-hours more electricity, and about thirteen to forty-four kilograms more carbon dioxide equivalent, our own AI drafting included. Because no AI video model paints our frames, a whole seventy-second video, its AI script drafting included, uses about fifty to ninety watt-hours, measured.

Against a traditional animator, studio guides put a one-minute explainer at forty to a hundred and forty hours of skilled work: an estimated six to twenty-one kilowatt-hours of electricity, and a price in the thousands of pounds. Ours is thirty-nine pounds, before VAT. Try it yourself: get started today at explainapaper.com.
